Amador County Sheriff jail general information page

The facility has state rated capacity for 76 inmates. This includes 65 male beds and 11 female beds. The goal of the corrections division is to house sentenced and unsentenced inmates safely. Staff provide security for the public, correctional personnel, law enforcement agencies, and inmates themselves.

All arrested persons get three free phone calls within three hours of booking. These can be local or collect long distance calls. Phone calls to attorneys, physicians, clergy, sexual assault counselors, or psychotherapists cannot be monitored or eavesdropped upon. This protects confidential communications during custody.

Finding Inmates in Amador County

Amador County uses an online inmate lookup system. You can search for people currently held at the jail. The system displays booking information for each inmate. Results show full name, booking date, charges filed, and bail amount when set by a court. Physical description data appears in each record.

The database updates as bookings and releases occur. New arrests appear after booking procedures are complete. When someone is released, their status changes in the system. Check back if you do not find a recent arrest right away. It may take time for new bookings to show up in the public database.

Search results include custody status and housing location. The system shows which unit holds the inmate at the Amador County jail. Bond amounts get posted once judges set bail in court. Expected release dates may appear for inmates with scheduled release times.

How Booking Works

When law enforcement brings someone to the jail, booking staff begin processing. They collect personal information from the arrestee. Staff record name, date of birth, and physical characteristics. Fingerprints are taken and submitted to state databases. Photographs are captured during the booking process.

Staff verify any outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions. They check for holds placed by courts or other agencies. All charges from the arresting agency get entered into the jail system. Medical screening occurs to identify health needs. This helps ensure proper care during custody at the facility.

The booking process takes several hours to complete. Once finished, inmates receive housing assignments. Classification factors include gender, age, custody level, and charges filed. Sentenced inmates may be separated from pre-trial detainees. The information collected during booking then appears in the public search database.

Depositing Money for Inmates

Inmates can receive money deposits for commissary purchases and phone calls. As of July 2014, deposits are no longer accepted at the counter or by mail. Use the kiosk in the lobby during business hours Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The kiosk is also available during visiting hours.

You can deposit money online through SmartDeposit at www.smartdeposit.com or by calling 866-394-0490. Use Facility Code JAQ and Pay Location Code 5500 when making deposits. JPay is another option for deposits and can be reached at 800-574-5729. These services allow family and friends to support inmates while they are in custody.

Note: Money deposited into inmate accounts can be used for phone calls, commissary items, and other approved purchases at the facility.

Amador County Sheriff records request information page

Email completed request forms along with a copy of your ID to ACSORecordsRequest@amadorcounty.gov. The sheriff office will respond within 10 working days per Government Code section 6253(c). The agency charges for public records requests except for records requested by a victim.

The Records Division stores original booking and release documents from the detention facility. These can be requested using the records request form. Include the full name of the person whose records you need. Provide the date of booking if known. State clearly what documents you are requesting from Amador County.

The Public Records Act requires agencies to make available specific information. This includes time, location, and substance of complaints, time and nature of response, time and date and location of occurrence, time and date of report, name and age of victim except when exempted, and factual circumstances surrounding events. Most booking information falls under these requirements.

California Disclosure Laws

State law requires disclosure of specific booking details. Government Code section 7923.610 mandates that law enforcement make public arrestee information. The statute took effect January 1, 2023. It lists nine categories that must be disclosed including full name and occupation, physical description with date of birth and other details, time and date of arrest, time and date of booking, location of arrest, factual circumstances, bail amount, release information, and all charges including warrants and holds.

Agencies can withhold information only when disclosure would endanger someone or compromise an investigation. This exception is narrow. It does not permit blanket denial of booking information. Most booking data must be made public under the statute in Amador County.

The California Public Records Act grants broad access rights. Government Code section 7923.600 exempts certain investigatory files from disclosure. Active investigation files can remain confidential. But basic booking information must still be released even when investigations continue across California.

State Criminal History Records

Criminal history summaries maintained by the California Department of Justice are different from local booking logs. Penal Code section 11105 restricts access to these statewide records. Only law enforcement agencies, authorized entities, and the subject of the record can request them. Third party requests are not authorized.

You can request your own criminal history for $25. California residents must use Live Scan fingerprinting at an authorized location. Amador County offers Live Scans on Mondays and Wednesdays. Fees are $15 for residents and $30 for non-residents. Out of state residents can submit manual fingerprint cards by mail. Processing takes 2 to 3 days for most records and up to 2 weeks for complex ones.

Penal Code section 13125 establishes minimum data standards for arrest documentation. This law specifies what information must be recorded during bookings. Personal ID data includes name, aliases, date of birth, physical description, fingerprints, and address. Arrest data covers agency name, booking number, date, charges, and dispositions. Amador County follows these standards.

You cannot share your criminal history copy with employers or other third parties. California Penal Code section 11142 prohibits this. Violation is a misdemeanor offense.

Fixing Record Errors

Contact the Amador County Sheriff Office if you find mistakes in booking records. Provide documentation showing the correct information. Court orders or official records may support your claim. Staff will review the information and make corrections if appropriate.

For state criminal history records, use the DOJ challenge process. First obtain a copy of your record from the Department of Justice. Form BCIA 8706 comes with your record. This is the Claim of Alleged Inaccuracy or Incompleteness form. Fill out this form to challenge incorrect entries in your state record.

Only courts or the arresting agency can authorize removal of arrest information. Sheriff staff cannot delete booking records without proper direction. DOJ also cannot modify entries without authorization from courts or prosecutors.
